Maldives is a small island country in South Asia, situated in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It lies in the southwest of Sri Lanka and India. It is about 700 kilometres (430 mi) from the Asian continent. The Maldives has a territory of roughly 298 square kilometres. the Maldives is one of the smallest Asian country by land area and population, with around 520,000 inhabitants. The capital and the most populated city is Male, traditionally is also called the “King’s Island”. It is formed by 26 natural atolls. There are around 1192 small islands in Maldives. The islands are inhabited by the natives and the famous hotels and restaurants. The islands are about 1 meter high from the sea level and the highest point is about 4 meters which makes Maldives vulnerable to the rising sea level due to global warming. Since entire island is occupied by the hotels and hence makes a unique destination for the travelers. There are hotels inhabited by the natives which are simpler and comparatively much cheaper. Contact the hotels before arrival so they can arrange the boat to pick you up from the airport which will cost around 3000 rupees for two person for one way or you can also take public fairy for travelling to save money and to know the culture up close which will cost you around 500 rupees for two people. The water planes are way expensive ranging from 500 USD so you can avoid that. You do not need to buy a SIM card as that is an extra.

Start the next day by choosing an island, you can go to the Maafushi Island and book for the water sport which will cost you from 4000 rupees for two person where you will be able to swim with sea turtles, whale sharks and hundreds of different kind of fishes, there is a whole list of it.

Next day you can book private resort tour which will cost you around 3000 rupees which will include from 9am to 6pm access to the resort which will also include lunch, dinner and drinks. Every islands has one big resort and private beach so you will also get to roam the island the whole day. You can also opt in to stay in the resort of that island but that will cost a lot but will surely justify the money, however avoid this if you are tight on budget. The price of the food is quite reasonable and if you are not including it in the package then you can expect to spend around 2000 rupees per day. Now depending on your budget you can choose different islands.

In total for a couple for 3 nights you will be spending: 60000 rupees which can vary depending upon how smartly you are spending your money.

How to get Visa:

The Maldives has a unique visa policy for the tourists which is visa on arrival for up to 30 days. The pre-requisites for getting a visa on arrival are:

The passport should not expire for at least 6 months post the date of the travel. The visitor should have the air ticket to return. The visitor should have enough money for the duration of his or her or their stay. The visitor should have a proof of his or her or their stay (hotel booking). Make sure to print out all of the above and keep two passport size photographs that you might require on the immigration.
